The Life In Light
Beautiful light can make a simple scene turn into something mesmerizing and cause you to not be able to look away when without unique lighting it could be a scene that wouldn’t even catch your eye. Interesting lighting brings our world to life with its harsh and long shadows, patterns created around you, bright highlights making life sparkle, and different times of the changing a singular space to something completely different. Using light to make a scene more cinematic has been my specific interest in what I want to do with my career so I wanted to conduct a study and map out how light changes a location based on the time of day and how that affects the shadows. I chose Toronto Centre Island because it is a place I have a strong connection to and it really enhances my creativity being there. It is a stunning place on its own so the addition of unique lighting is used to create more visual interest and enhance the drama of the photos. I have documented the island from 10:00am-6:00pm to capture the visual change of the space depending on the time of day and how the placement of the sun affects the shadows and highlights. This was a helpful opportunity had to learn about light and how to understand it to achieve my desired look. This series also made me more passionate and fall even more in love with making our world cinematic and taking a pause to appreciate the beauty of what’s around us.
